How to Disinfect Laundry and Bedding

Disinfecting laundry and bedding

Disinfecting laundry and bedding

Want to know how you can disinfect laundry and bedding? We are all aware of the ongoing COVID 19 crisis that has become a global pandemic. It’s highly contagious and needs you to be on your toes on matters of hygiene. It has to start from your bedroom and trickle to the world you face when you go out.

This is not the time to take things easy and assume that the virus is some sort of clamor. Pay special attention to your bedding and laundry. You don’t have to buy the most expensive chemicals and detergents to have your laundry disinfected. The mere act of taking your bedding out to get some sun and air will go a long way.

USE GENUINE DETERGENT

Using water only for your laundry and expecting results is an unrealistic thought to hold on to. Back it up with a detergent that’s been verified by the relevant authorities.

Also, the detergent in question must have been around for the longest time. This is one way to ensure that you are exposing your laundry to a real deal. The method you use when doing your laundry also matters greatly.

With the wide array of detergents available, you may want to check what each has to offer. Their chemical compositions vary greatly and might be detrimental to your fabrics.

THROW IN SOME VINEGAR

Don’t mind its pungent smell, but vinegar can work wonders when it comes to disinfecting laundry and bedding. It contains acetic acid, which is known to have no mercy during a face-off with bacteria and viruses.

Add no more than half a cup when rinsing your clothes. By settling for vinegar, you are well assured of certain benefits, such as killing bacteria. It also acts as a reliable fabric softener.

The next time you go shopping, don’t pass by the vinegar section as though it weren’t important. Now you know just how much it means to your bedding and laundry.

DRY IN THE SUN

How about some good old sun to help disinfect your bedding and laundry? I did mention this earlier but would like to elaborate on the same. The main benefit of drying your clothes in the sun is that it’s natural.

No chemicals, no harsh additives, but too much of it would eventually destroy your laundry. Don’t let the lighter fabrics stay in the sun longer than an hour. The duration also depends on how intense or light the sun is.

Another benefit is that the wind gets to flow into your fabrics and leaves laundry smelling fresh.

WARM WATER

This works best if you prefer to do your laundry the traditional way; hand washing. Careful not to leave your hands with scars due to higher temperatures. Warm water aids in loosening the dirt and making it easier to get to the viruses.

However, check the labels on your clothes first before making any move you might regret. The manufacturers know more about the fabrics and how much heat they can take in the name of disinfecting.

If your laundry requires more heat, you should set your washing machine on that.

CHECK THE STAINS

When it comes to washing, some rules apply to all kinds of stains. Whether it’s sweat, mud, or even soup spills, each one has a remedy. A lot happens to your sheets while you sleep.

By the time you wake up, they are not as fresh as before you slept on them. Disinfecting them becomes easier when you have the methods at your fingertips.

For instance, something as light as drool on your pillow only requires the necessary steps of washing. The stains get off as soon as you pour in some soap and wash.

IRON YOUR CLOTHES

It may sound like such a waste of time, but ironing is a form of disinfecting your laundry. Think about that the next time you fold and put them away without first ironing.

The heat from your iron box does more to your fabric than you can imagine. This is except for woolen sweaters, of course. Bacteria and viruses can’t stand the heat that’s passed on.

DO TAKE CARE OF YOUR LAUNDRY

Avoid leaving your laundry in the basket for too long. This applies most especially to the ones with messy spills on them. The longer they stay will only give you a hard time during the washing process. Now you are an expert on how to disinfect laundry and bedding!
