End of Tenancy Carpet Cleaning. While staying in one’s own home or office is perhaps the right way forward, this may not always happen. Many may not have the wherewithal or financial strength to buy a home of their own. There are also people who are comfortable staying in a leased home, while an some are happier working in rented office. However, there are a few points that one should bear in mind when renting home or office.
The properties belong to the landlord. Therefore the tenants have to hand over vacant possession of the same whenever the landlord wants. In most cases there is a written agreement between the tenant and owner whether it is a home or office. There’s also few points that make up, that is known as end of tenancy clauses. Few things that are mentioned in this clause and both tenant and the landlord have to abide by the same. It is quite obvious that the tenants would have taken the premises on rent or lease in a certain condition. Hence, they must ensure that they take all care to return the property to the owner in the same condition. This is often known as as-is-where-is condition.
The tenancy agreement might involve a property that is fully or partially furnished. In some cases, the tenant might get a space that is empty and he might install the fixtures and fittings. There are also homes and offices where the owner gives on rent a property that is fully or partially furnished. At the end of tenancy agreement, tenant must handover property in the same condition which was handed over to them.
When we talk about fixtures and fittings there could be few things in the list. Here are a few of them:
All these things are mentioned in agreement so that there is no misunderstanding when the tenancy comes to an end. Tenant is responsible to make sure that items are in same condition as they were during beginning of the tenancy. Yes, some wear and tear and aging is unavoidable and these are normally made a part of the entire agreement.
We will look into carpet cleaning and find out whether this forms a part of the entire tenancy agreement.
It may not be possible to straight jacket the entire thing in one rigid basket. There are different approaches being taken by different landlords. There could be a few who may make cleaning the carpet as a mandatory part of end-of-tenancy clause. On the other hand, there could be others who may think otherwise and would leave the same to mutual understanding.
However, it would be wrong of the tenant to handover carpet that is soiled, dirty or even damaged. Some wear and tear might be expected, so it would be better for tenant to thoroughly clean the carpet. This will help both parties to end the tenancy agreement on a good note. Cleaning carpet is not very expensive. Even if done twice or thrice a year during the tenancy agreement period, it should be enough. Care should be taken to ensure that the carpet is free from stains, spots and other such things.
It’s not a bad idea for tenant to clean carpet of the home out of moral and ethical commitment. However, if the issues related to carpet cleaning are clearly mentioned in the agreement, then things become that much clearer and simpler for both the parties.
